January 20, 2017PROGNOSIS becomes a new associate partner of the German Center for Lung Research
At the beginning of this year, the Prospective German Non-CF Bronchiectasis Registry (PROGNOSIS) and German Center for Lung Research (DZL) signed a cooperation agreement, granting PROGNOSIS the status of associate partner of the DZL.
The cooperation includes partnership support in the establishment of a research network for non-CF bronchiectasis for joint translational projects in this field and regular personal exchange.
„The status of associate partner of the DZL underlines the importance of PROGNOSIS as a health policy related initiative in Germany“, explained Dr. Felix Ringshausen, initiator and board member of PROGNOSIS. „This official connection with the DZL provides us with greater political importance and increased recognition, boosting for example our chances in the application process in the public sector.“
„With PROGNOSIS, the DZL gains an important partner in the border areas between infections and chronic airway diseases. In the near future we hope to create a bridge between the DZL and the German Center for Infection Research“, said Professor Dr. Tobias Welte, Board Member of the DZL. As Director of the BREATH (Biomedical Research in Endstage and Obstructive Lung Disease Hannover) site of the DZL, he has supported PROGNOSIS from the start. PROGNOSIS is, through its connection with the registry of the European Multicentre Bronchiectasis Audit and Research Collaboration (EMBARC), also part of an international network and this too is an important factor for the DZL. „This creates a clear win-win situation“, said Welte, „from which bronchiectasis patients in particular will ultimately profit, whose disease has been underrepresented for so long“. Concrete joint projects should remedy this in the mid-term. These will be developed, planned and accompanied through to conclusion by a panel of experts from PROGNOSIS and DZL.
